Summer Youth Camp of the DAeC at Mihla

In the hot summer of 2006, there could only be one right location for a balloon youth camp: A swimming pool. And that's exactly where we were: At the public swimming pool of Mihla, a small town near Eisenach.

5 balloons, 7 days, 22 flights, 25 degrees water, 35 participants and often more than 36 degrees air - these are the figures of a balloon youth camp of superlatives!

We were allowed to launch our balloons directly at the swimming pool, just a few meters away from our tents.

Up, up and away into a warm summer morning.

After returning from the balloon flight, we were awaited by a delicious breakfast buffet!

Christin Herre and her team from the "Paddlertreff" at Mihla were our caterers for that week and supplied us all days with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

All the participants agreed: Never before a youth camp has had such a tasty four-stars catering!

When you're on a holiday near Eisenach, of course, the historic Wartburg is a must see!

But the spare time activities at the camp provided also other funny highlights.

Dry practice: organiser Bernd Pulzer is testing his vehicle for the rafting tour on the river Werra.

With two dinghies and several tractor tires, the river tour on the Werra became a refreshing highlight.

These three girls show that the tractor tires can also be used for other things.

Camp fire romanticism was also one of the favourites at the camp.

Sometimes, even at night it was so hot that several youths decided to sleep open-air. And to have the right beach feeling, they took the volley ball field ;-)

No problem with a balloon trainer present: Matt putting up the D-OIIC for the last morning flight.

Another great flight over the surroundings of Mihla.

For this terrific youth camp, we wish to thank the town of Mihla, the local swimming pool and especially the pool attendant, the "Paddlertreff" at Mihla for the delicious catering and, last but not least, all the pilots and organisers who made this camp possible.
